In June 2012 I went on a trip to Charlotte North Carolina. I was going to check out the city, see if I could liked it, if I could see myself living there. The reason behind this is because I was(and still am)looking at a teaching program there. While I was there, I went to the Mint Museum, which is in Uptown(there is no Downtown). While I was there, they had this exhibit(not permanent sadly) on kitchen appliances. Sounds kinda dorky, weird, stupid right? actually, it was WAY awesome! The theme was the history of the appliances. For example, they would have different tools that were used for knives at different stages of history, and also from other cultures. They had so many of these! It was totally amazing to be able to see, in front of me, different tools used across countries and across cultures for the same thing. It was a very unique exhibit, which is right up my alley, and it really stuck with me.
A week or so ago, I decided to start a blog inspired by this exhibit. I had already once started a blog, which has since been deleted, where I would write posts on dishes which I had cooked. This blog is going to be a little bit like that, but more along the lines of what the exhibit did: the kitchen through the ages. I will not only write about recipes and dishes, but about the history and involvement concerning kitchen appliances, or how the use of the kitchen has changed. I'll write various posts, like the history of knives, or the history of the oven, etc. I will also write about the history and use of various ingredients, like salt or pepper or sugar, or bananas, etc. I'm very excited about this blog, and I think it will hopefully be a good resource or just a fun blog to read about.
My first post will actually be a series, and it will concern various kitchen layouts. stay tuned!
